THE SILENT VOLCANO
A THRILLER IN ASH
Gunung Kelam has been silent for forty years. The villagers at its base have stopped fearing it, planted rice on its lower slopes, and built a new school within sight of the old crater. The government monitoring station has been reduced to one technician, a seismograph, and a kettle.
When Dr. Tari Solihah arrives to recalibrate the sensors, she expects a quiet posting. Instead, the data tells her something impossible: the volcano's deep chambers are venting in patterns no natural system produces. Someone, somewhere, has been pumping water into the magma conduit for years.
As Tari digs into the records of the last eruption, she uncovers a chain of mining concessions, a missing geologist, and a private contractor with the equipment and the silence to do it again. The villagers, meanwhile, are preparing for the annual festival of the mountain — a celebration Tari is increasingly certain they will not survive.
The Silent Volcano is a slow-burn ecological thriller about the people who profit from disaster and the small number of people who stand between a mountain and its next eruption. The mountain does not care who is right. It only remembers what has been done to it.
